CHEEKKILODE SERVICE COOPERATIVE SOCIETY
About Us
The co-operative movement in India started after the enactment of the
Co-operative Societies Act of 1904. This movement has helped the
villages to overcome their economic problems to a certain extent by
providing credit and promoting the culture of thrift and self-help
among the rural population. It is this movement that brought a shift in
the people’s habit of hoarding money inside their homes to keeping it
safely in a bank. Over the years, co-operative societies have grown in
terms of their popularity, size, volume of business, and also their
influence on the Indian economy.
CHEEKKILODE SERVICE COOPERATIVE SOCIETY
Cheekkilode has a rich tradition and has contributed well to India’s
cooperative movement. Hundred years ago, the Cheekkilode Aikya
Naanaya Nidhi was a first of its kind venture. An organization that
was started way back in 1920 in the village of East Cheekkilode, on
Kolathur road under the inspiring leadership of some noble
personalities has now grown into the Cheekkilode Service
Cooperative Society in 1977.
The bank has been serving the public of Nanmanda Panchayat’s
agricultural areas including Cheekkilode and Kolathur. The hard work of the Employees and most importantly, the support of the members helped the organization to reach the height of today.
The main branch of Cheekkilode Service Co-operative Bank is
currently operating at ‘Kamur Building’ at ‘Olayammel’, the heart of
Cheekkilode.
On 30.09.2022 a new branch office was inaugurated by the honorable
PWD and Tourism Minister Adv. PA Mohammad Riyas at Kolathur,
two Kilometers away from the main branch. The Minister for Forest
and Wildlife, Mr. AK Saseendran presided over the inaugural
function. The bank’s locker facility was inaugurated by Consumer
Fed Chairman Shri M Mehboob. The first deposit was accepted by
Smt B Sudha, honorable Joint Registrar of Department of Co-
operation, Government of Kerala.
